  • Albino J. Oliveira-Maia

    Albino J. Oliveira-Maia

    Albino Oliveira Maia, MD, MPH, PhD, completed a medical degree and doctorate in neuroscience at Universidade do Porto, with the latter developed at Duke University, in North Carolina. He then completed clinical training to become a psychiatrist in Lisbon, while engaging in postdoctoral training at the Champalimaud Neuroscience Programme. During that time, Albino also completed a master’s degree in public health at the Harvard School of Public Health, in Boston, where he trained in Non-invasive Brain Stimulation with Alvaro Pascual Leone. Currently, Albino is the Director of the Neuropsychiatry Unit and Principal Investigator at the Champalimaud Foundation, Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at NOVA Medical School and Vice-President of the Portuguese Society of Psychiatry and Mental Health.

  • Ana Ganho Ávila

    Ana Ganho Ávila

    Ana Ganho Ávila, Psychologist, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist specialised in clinical and health psychology, as well as psychotherapy. In 2016, Ana completed her doctorate degree in basic Psychology at the University of Minho. Currently, she is a researcher at the Research Center in Neuropsychology and Cognitive Behavioural Intervention [CINEICC] at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. She is certified in clinical applications of TMS and completed her training in tDCS at the City College of New York. She is the Secretary of the European Society for Brain Stimulation.

  • Gonçalo Cotovio

    Gonçalo Cotovio

    Gonçalo Cotovio completed his degree in Medicine at NOVA Medical School, in 2014. A year later, he joined Champalimaud Foundation's Neuropsychiatry Unit starting as a research trainee and completing his PhD in January 2023. During this period, he received training in neuromodulation at Berenson Allen Center, Harvard Medical School. In 2020, he graduated in Epidemiology and Clinical Research from the Portugal Clinical Research Training Program, Harvard Medical School. Currently, he is continuing his research work at Champalimaud Foundation's Neuropsychiatry Unit, and he is an Assistant Professor of Neurosciences at NOVA Medical School. He is now close to complete his Psychiatry Residency at Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental. Over the years, Gonçalo has focused his work on the neurobiology of mood disorders and other neuropsychiatric conditions, trying to develop strategies for their study and treatment, using brain connectivity and neuromodulation.

  • Joana Teixeira Andrade

    Joana Teixeira Andrade is a Psychiatrist at the Centro Hospitalar da Universidade de Coimbra (CHUC) and Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra Faculty of Medicine, she is also the Sub-coordinator of the Neuromodulation Unit and POC consultation at the CHUC.

  • Nuno Pinto

    Nuno Pinto is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience, Neurophysiology, Neuroanatomy, and Nervous system-related classes at the Faculty of Health Sciences - University of Beira Interior, Portugal. He received his PhD in Biomedicine from the Faculty of Health Sciences - University of Beira Interior. He is a member of CICS-UBI - Health Sciences Research Centre and his research using Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation focuses on the study of the nervous system and associated diseases, with emphasis on the use of neurophysiological studies. He is currently the president of the Portuguese Association of Neurophysiology Technicians.

  • Sandra Carvalho

    Sandra Carvalho is a board certified Clinical Psychologist and holds a PhD in Psychology (Psychophysiology specialty, University of Minho). Sandra completed a 3-year postdoctoral training in neuroscience at the Neuromodulation Center at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and at Harvard Medical University (USA). She received her training in non-invasive brain stimulation methods at University of Göttingen in 2008 and at Harvard Medical School in 2010. She has over 15 years of experience in the field, both in clinical and researchsettings. Sandra is an assistant professor of neuropsychology at the University of Aveiro, the director of the psychology course, the founder and director of the Translational Neuropsychology Laboratory (TNL-Lab), and a member of the department's executive board.
